leave. He was reluctant but co-operative at this stage.
We restricted access to any newcomers to the venue and
asked for a few more units to come to the location to help
with dispersal of the small numbers that were in
attendance and deter any new arrivals.
The venue had more or less emptied, but the organisers
were still packing their equipment away. As this was
happening a crowd of approximately 100 people arrived
in Millmarsh Lane at the same time. This appeared odd to
me that so many people turned up all at once. The crowd
appeared to be angry at the fact that Police had
interrupted their evening and were shouting and
advancing on officers. One of the group shouted, "Let’s
just storm it.” Cordell appeared to have realised that this
crowd was in attendance and half emerged from the
venue and appeared to be encouraging the crowd to act up
and try to force their way into the site. After a short time
however, the crowd started to disappear. They moved
back towards the junction of Millmarsh Lane and
Mollison Avenue. A/Insp KING asked some the officers
present to follow them up to the junction and restrict
access to Millmarsh Lane.
Once this had happened, reports came over the radio that
more numbers were arriving and that more officers were
going to be needed in order to control the group. There
were also reports of missiles being thrown at officers.
A/Insp King and I went to the junction of Mollison
Avenue. I could see a large crowd of 200 - 250. Crowd
was very verbal and on the whole were advancing
towards officers. There were a number of members of the
crowd that were throwing traffic cones, traffic beacons
and bottles at officers. 1 ordered the officers to form a
cordon across the road and a number of officers also drew
and racked their batons as a show of force and a deterrent.
I did this also. A/lnsp KING had asked for a dog van to
attend the scene and the dog and handler assisted in
driving the crowd back. TSG commissioners reserve was
also on route.
There were two members of this crowd, a male and a
female, that persisted and did not back down and leave.
These two were detained and subsequently arrested by
officers. The male had to be restrained on the floor.
Following this exchange, the crowd started to move back
towards the Brimsdown British Rail station. This is where
they stayed for the remainder of the incident. The odd one
